How To Feed Your Family - New Book! - SR Nutrition (2024)

I’m thrilled to be FINALLY sharing details on a new book I’ve written … How to Feed Your Family… I’m saying FINALLY as it seems I’ve been working on this one for so long. The idea started a while back and I’ve been prepping recipes, writing text, testing the tips and advice for around a year and it feels SO good to finally be able to share it with everyone. This book is a third in my HOW TO series, but it’s also a little different…

What is How to Feed Your Family all about?

How to Feed Your Family is much less about the SCIENCE of feeding little ones – How to Wean Your Baby and How to Feed Your Toddler help deal with very scientific and advice-led elements of feeding babies and toddlers…This book is more of a Family Feeding BIBLE – it’s the practicalities, the need-to-knows and the tried and tested tips that help take the pressures off of feeding a family.

I decided to make this my most practical book to date…it’s not just about recipes or about the nutrition we need as a family….it’s about the PRACTICALITIES of feeding your family. How to make it more fluid, less of a chore and offering shortcuts and advice for:

  • food shopping for a family,
  • prepping and getting organised
  • meal-planning,
  • reducing food waste and
  • choosing healthy, delicious food.

HOW TO. That’s really what it’s all about.

Why did I write this book?

I was finding (especially since having Ada and being a working mum to two kids) that feeding my family was getting a little tiresome. I was a bit fed up with creating multiple meals every day, making the same dishes, and having to spend so long creating them. Plus, I was finding myself struggling to think of meal ideas to create in the first place.

When I started writing How to Feed Your Family, I worked on that a lot! What can I do to make this all so much easier for families? How can I offer ideas and inspiration whilst also making it easy, quick but also make it a bit more of an experience and more enjoyable all round.

How to Feed Your Family: a Breakdown

My book starts by offering Nutrition for the whole family “Your Family’s Nutrition”, which breaks down a balanced diet and goes into a bit of detail about the nutrition that different ages and stages in a family will need. It’s very practical with plenty of snippets of advice, graphics to show stand out helpful tips at a glance and taking individuality into account too, of course.

The Next Chapter is about “Family Mealtimes”. Why they matter, how to make them a little easier and simpler, and practical tips to help everyone enjoy them more.

Chapter 3 “Getting Organised” is my favourite chapter, it’s FULL to the brim of all the tips you need to know to practically, easily and realistically Feed Your Family. I even include a week’s menu plan, which doesn’t just focus on what to make and when, but also helps you to slot in time for bulk cooking (1.5h on a Sunday) and recommends which foods to freeze and use through the week.

It tells the reader when to get certain foods out of the freezer so you have snacks and meals ready that day and also includes prep times for any meals as well as some easy alternatives if you’re short of time. I love it and I’ve been using it myself a lot too!

This chapter also includes lots about things like making the most of meals, adding extras in, label reading, storing foods to make the most out of their longevity, bulk cooking, a deep dive into cooking oils and how to look after your fridge and freezer and SO much more!

Recipes from the book

Lastly, and certainly not least….is the recipe section. I LOVE these recipes – it’s been so hard not showing them on my Instagram Stories so much, because I wasn’t able to talk about the book, but there are so many incredible recipes in this book – 70 – so the most I’ve done so far and they’re broken down into:

Breakfasts, lunch, dinner, celebrations, snacks.

I’ve been asked already a few of my favourites and I honestly struggle to choose, but here are some of them:

  • Carrot cake granola
