Chatham Thursday, July 20, 2000 Chatham County Obituaries es Bettie Carter Combe Bettie Carter Combe, 70, died Monday, July 10, 2000 in the University of North Carolina Hospital, Chapel Hill, of a sudonset of acute leukemia. Mrs. Combe was born in Pocatello, Idaho December 8, 1929. She graduated from Pocatello High School in 1948 and then from Idaho State University in 1952, with a degree in sociology and education. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega and a former Miss Pocatello.

After college, Mrs. Combe raised a family and, at mid life, moved east to the New York City area. In the mid 1970's, Mrs. Combe joined the Philadelphia Museum of Art Guide Program. She guided tours throughout the museum collection, and served as training coordinator for guides on several major special exhibits.

the mid 1980's, Mrs. Combe joined her husband, Louis Combe, in forming Combe Associates. They consulted for multi-national corporations throughout the world. During this time, Mrs. Combe also pursued her art history research activities.

In the early 1990's, Mrs. Combe entered the doctoral program in art history at the University of Virginia. She subsequently worked as a lecturer, researcher and writer in art history. Mr. and Mrs.

Combe moved to Fearrington Village in 1996. Mrs. Combe was preceded in death by her mother, Fay Tingey Carter, and her son, Carter Kim Combe. Surviving are her husband, Louise Combe; father, C.G. Carter; son, Kirk Combe, and grandchildren, Clayton, Paul, Olivia and Hannah Combe.

A memorial fund benefiting the Philadelphia Museum of Art's Guide Library has been established. Martin Luther Efird Martin Luther Efird, 85, of Guilford HealthCare Center, Greensboro, died Sunday, July 16, 2000 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 19, 2000 at Oakley Baptist Church, Siler City, with the Rev. Robert A. Griffith officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Efird was a native of Iredell County, and lived and farmed at Siler City. In 1960 he moved to Florida where he worked at Airdex, as a rebuilder of airplane engines and later retired from the cabinet- making business. He is survived by his son, Linuel Efird (Dorothy) of Siler City; five daughters, Anna Wray (Doug) of Greensboro, Moree Poe of Siler City, Donna Elmore (Harold) of Greensboro, Sandra Allen of Ore City, Texas, and Betty Johnson (Charlie) of Cary; sister, Mrs. Minnie Lee Buttry of Greensboro; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and special friend, Mrs.

Margaret Kerr of New Port Richey, FL. Mrs. Brenda McCormick, a caregiver at GHC, will sing and share thoughts of his time at GHC. Martin (Luke) Efird was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs.

JESSIE THOMAS GEORGE Jessie Thomas George, 78, of 349 Southern High School Road, Graham, died Monday (7-17-00) at Alamance Regional Medical Center after several years failing health and two days critical illness. Wednesday (7-19-00) at Cool Springs United Methodist Church, Carthage, with the Rev. Gerald Peterson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. A native of Forsyth County, he was a Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of Cool Springs United Methodist Church. He was a retired maintenance supervisor with Performance Cast Parts, Sanford.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth Phillips Sapp of Carthage; son, Michael B. Sapp of Mebane; daughters, Pamela S. Whitaker of Carthage and Kimberly S. Coyle of Fayetteville; sister, Phyllis S. GEORGE M. TERRY George Michael Terry, 41, of 420 S. 6th Siler City, died Saturday (7-15-00) at John Umstead Hospital, Butner. A memorial service will be held at a later date. A native of Lee County, he was employed with Quality Molding and was of the Baptist faith.

Climax couple charged in A Climax couple has been charged in the breaking and entering at 5230 Hollow Hill Road, in Liberty on June 13.

A 15-year-old-girl who was in the home of her aunt at the time of the crime did not respond to a knock on the door. She hid in a closet with a cellular phone, talking to 911 the entire time, while watching the thief steal some guns and other property. Randolph County Sheriff's Department said Tony Randall Logan, 32, and Missy Jo Logan, 23, of 5626 Spainhour Street in Climax, have been arrested. Both have been charged with one count each of felony breaking and entering, felony larceny and felony possession of stolen goods. The value of property taken from the home was $4,345, according to the Sheriff's Department.

Tony Logan was arrested on July 1 and Missy Logan was arrested July' 7. Tony Logan remains in Randolph County Jail under a secured bond.
