JANUARY 23, 1987 The Milontgomery Advertiser PAGE 7B Arrests Halt Gang Fight, Police Say By DAVE LOVERUDE Advertiser Staff Writer Eight juveniles have been arrested for planning a gang fight that never took place, a. Police Department spokeswoman said. The fight was averted after police received information that a group of juveniles were planning a gang fight Saturday night near an east Montsomery, shopping center, Lt. T.L. About 60 people, mostly juveniles, gathered in the parking lot behind Piccadilly Restaurant, 2601 Eastern about 10:30 p.m.

But police arrived before the fight started, Hord said. 1. Police confiscated a variety of weapons, including, knives, pipes, baseball bats, single-barrel shotgun and a bolt-action shotgun, Hord said. The eight youths were charged with carrying concealed weapons. No one was injured, Hord said.

In other public safety matters: A 19-year-old Montgomery man has been charged in connection with the November 1986 sexual assault of an east Montgomery female juvenile, Hord said. Thomas Keith Stephenson, 4027 Vandiver Court, was charged with second-degree rape and was released from the county jail late Wednesday on $500 bond, Hord said. Police were looking for a man Thursday in connection with the armed robbery of a Montgomery fastfood restaurant, Hord said. The man entered Wendy's Old Fashioned Hamburgers, 1195 West about 9 p.m., robbed a clerk of an undisclosed amount of money and fled, she said. No one was injured in the incident, Hord said.

Prattville police were continuing their investigation into a log truck-motorcycle accident Wednesday that killed a 34-year-old Montgomery woman. Dianne Kathleen Sandlin, 3244 Alan Lane, was killed about 5:40 p.m. Wednesday when her 1983 Yamaha motorcycle was struck from behind by the log truck, Police Chief E.R. Crew. Crew, said the truck, driven by Floyd Mott Jr.

of Tallassee, swerved into the right-hand lane of South Memorial Drive trying to avoid the slow-moving motorcycle during a heavy rainstorm. Mott was not injured in the accident, Crew said. It was the second traffic fatality in Prattville this year, Crew said. Small Turnover Aids In Move Continued From 6B upstairs from the secretary of office, said Larry Childers, acting press secretary for Siegelman. Siegelman and other officials new to the attorney general's office are studying their employees' responsibilities and the channels of authority the hope of establishing routines in the coming weeks.

"What we hope to do as soon as possible is to get things institutionalized so the handling of things becomes more automatic," Childers said. The officials also are working to develop a computer network from the various computer components installed in the office during the administration of former Attorney General Charles Graddick. The moving had been finished early in the state tresurers' office, where George Wallace Jr. on Thursday was studying the intricacies of state financing and investment. Wallace said he moved into his office last weekend, before he took the oath of office from his father, the former governor, on Monday.

The younger Wallace said his transistion was helped because the staff of the outgoing state treasurer stayed 1 in their jobs, and he had brought no newstaff with him. Although there was some unpacking still to be (one Thursday in the secretary of state's office, there also were fewer problems because of the small turnover in staff, said Ray Minter, assistait to Glen Browder, secretary of stae. Corrections Must Rehire Guard Continued from 6B jury and administrator of punishment." "To the extert that they take the law in their hands, they stand to lose their jobs," Byrie said. Williams was lever indicted in nection with the Kilby incident, but seven pison officials were charged volating the inmates' other, civil rights. A federal jury found three officials inocent in 1985 and could not reachverdicts on the other four.

U.S. DistrictJudge Robert Varner then dismissed the charges against the four officals, but government prosecutors hive appealed Varner's decision. Former Asociate Prison Commissioner James C. Cooke was found innocent by tie federal jury, but was dismissed fron his job last February. Hearing Offier Robert Hodnette ruled last month that the prison system should retire Cooke and award him back pay.

Lyles said the Department of Corrections still dans to appeal Hodnette's ruling. The Personnel Board has tentativelyscheduled in Cooke's case for the board's February meeting. LEGALS STATE OF ALABAMA MONTGOMERY COUNTY FORECLOSURE NOTICE WHEREAS, on March 4, 1986, Paul B. Fussell, Jr. and Rose L.
