SOUTHEASTERN N.C. —Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, we’ll include that below the listed meeting, too.

Monday, May 20

Leland Town Council is holding a special meeting at 6 p.m. at town hall to go into closed session.

The Wilmington City Council will hold an agenda review at 8:30 a.m. in city hall, 102 N. Third St. Meetings are live streamed here. The agenda can be viewed here.

The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. in the New Hanover County Courthouse, 24 N. Third St. Meetings are live streamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Construction contract and budget amendment for the Northchase Library Project
  • First reading of abandoned vessel ordinance

The New Hanover County Schools Curriculum Committee will meet at 4:15 p.m. in the Board of Education Center, 1805 S. 13th St. Meetings are live streamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Overview of new science standards and timeline
  • Feedback on technology framework for computer science DPI requirements

Brunswick County Board of Commissioners will hear the 2024-2025 fiscal year budget at 6 p.m. on the first floor of the David R. Sandifer Administration Building at 30 Government Center Drive in Bolivia. It does not include a property tax rate increase but does come with certain water and wastewater fees and wholesale wastewater rates. The agenda is here and the livestream available here.

Pender County Board of Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m. at Pender County Public Assembly Room, 805 S. Walker St., Burgaw, NC. The agenda includes a comprehensive transportation plan update and a $100,000 purchase order for police equipment.

Kure Beach Town Council will meet at 6 p.m. at town hall council chambers, 117 Settlers Lane. The agenda includes a presentation on the draft 2024-2025 budget ordinance.

Tuesday, May 21

Belville ABC Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. at 63 River Road. The agenda includes the general manager’s report and a public hearing on 2024-2025 budget.

The Wilmington City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. in city hall, 102 N. Third St. Meetings are live streamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Public hearing on the 2024-2025 budget
  • Public Hearing FY2025 Annual Action Plan for CDBG & HOME Funds
  • Ordinance Amending the Land Development Code, Chapter 18 for Various Amendments and Clean-up Items Related to Permitted Uses, Legacy District Standards, Parking Lot Landscaping, Site Design Standards, Electric Vehicle Parking, and Definitions

The Brunswick County Board of Education will hold committee meetings beginning at 9 a.m. in the Brunswick County Administrative Offices, 35 Referendum Drive. Meetings are live streamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Presentation on cell phone free schools
  • Individual class size overage

The New Hanover County Schools Policy Committee will meet at 10 a.m. in the Board of Education Center, 1805 S. 13th St. Meetings are live streamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Policy 7300: Staff Responsibilities
  • Policy 3210: Parental Inspection of and Objection to Instructional Materials

Thursday, May 23

New Hanover County Board of Elections will meet in the Longleaf Room, 1241 A Military Cutoff Road at 2 p.m. to conduct sample audit counts, and review and count supplemental absentee and provisional ballots for the secondary primary. The public is welcome, though the meeting telephonically can also be attended via telephone: 1-336-218-2051, press 556 596 004 followed by pound (#). It will also be livestreamed here.

Pender County Board of Elections will meet at 6 p.m. at 807 S. Walker Street in Burgaw to conduct sample audit counts, and review and count supplemental absentee and provisional ballots for the secondary primary. It is open to the public.

The Cape Fear Public Transportation Authority will meet at 12:30. p.m at Forden Station, 505 Cando St. An agenda was not posted by press.

Cape Fear Community College Board of Trustees will meet at 5 p.m. at Union Station. An agenda was not posted by press.

The North Carolina State Ports Authority Board of Directors will meet in person at 9 a.m. in the Board Room of the North Carolina Maritime Building, 2202 Burnett Blvd. It’s open to the public.

Friday, May 24

New Hanover County Board of Elections will meet in the Longleaf Room, 1241 A Military Cutoff Road at 11 a.m. to conduct the secondary primary county canvass of election results. The public is welcome, though the meeting telephonically can also be attended via telephone: 1-336-218-2051 and press 709 684 228 followed by pound (#). The meeting will be livestreamed here.

Pender County Board of Elections will meet at 11 a.m. 807 S. Walker Street in Burgaw to conduct the county canvass of the secondary primary election results. The public is welcome.

Brunswick County Board of Elections will meet at 9 a.m. in Commissioners’ Chambers, David Sandifer Administration Building 30 Government Center Drive in Bolivia for a pre-canvass and canvass meeting of the secondary primary election results. The public is welcome and meetings are livestreamed here.
