Patient & visitor information

Patient representatives

Your patient representative is a confidential liaison between you and the medical center, appointed to act on your behalf to help facilitate solutions to patient problems, concerns and other needs. The patient representative is available 7 am to 8 pm, Monday through Friday and 7:30 am to 4 pm on weekends by dialing ext. 5443 or dial "0" for the operator.

Visitor reference guide

Upon arrival: When you arrive at the surgical area (located on the third floor of the hospital and accessible from the elevators located in the main lobby), patients and visitors are asked to register at the surgical reception desk. From there, one visitor will be able to accompany the patient into the surgical admitting area. Communication with the surgical team is very important. The volunteers working at the reception desk in the Surgical Waiting Area are there to assist in the process and to facilitate communication.

During surgery: At the surgical reception desk, we will ask for one person to be identified as the main contact person for the patient. This person will receive periodic updates on the patient's condition and the progress of the procedure. The contact person will be given a pager. Please come to the surgical reception desk when your pager vibrates. If the contact person leaves the waiting area, please notify the receptionist so that any communication from the surgical team can be forwarded when the contact person returns.

After surgery: After the surgical procedure, the surgeon will update the patient's contact person. At that time, the patient is transferred to our recovery area to be monitored for any post surgery needs. Once the patient is recovered (which can take up to an hour or more after the surgeon speaks with you), a nurse will let you know where you may visit with the patient. Patients will be reunited with family members in preparation for discharge.

Visitor hours: Family members may be with you the day of surgery. While you are in the operating and recovery rooms, they should wait in the Surgical Waiting Area located on the third floor. When you return to your room, they are notified and may join you. Visiting hours on most medical and surgical units are 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Some units have more restrictive privileges to assure patients have sufficient recovery time. Please check with your family member's nurse for the visiting hours on their unit.
