knows the rest of the state 4 A soccer playoffs be as easy as the first game The Whirlies ranked No 2 opened the playoffs with a 9 0 rout of Charlotte Myers Park Tuesday Grimsley is seeking its second straight state title Previously soccer was an open classifi cation but this year the 4 A schools have been split off Myers Park which finished third in the Southwestern 4 A Conference was surely one of the weaker teams that qualified think it was a combination of DeGraw said were ready for the playoffs and (Myers Park) is a better team than they played today a good way for us to start coming out that It was a game for about 18 min utes with Grimsley unable to fin ish numerous early scoring opportunities But when Jennifer Marsh stole a poor Mustang goal kick and lined a shot into the net the scoring doors opened keeper for Myers Park was too sick to continue in the second half the Mustangs put a field player in goal and the Whirlies added five more scores When it was over Marsh had three goals Laurie Benson and Stacy Weaver two each and Jenni fer Lentz and Andrea Bonino one apiece The Mustang defense give the novice keeper much help leading to some easy goals starting keeper Al lison Wahl also was ill and had to leave the game in the first half Jenny Adams replaced her Not that there was much to do Grimsley continuously controlled the ball on offense and the ball rarely crossed into the end The few times that the Mus tangs got close to the goal Grim defense cleared the ball out of danger Myers Park even get a shot off until the final minute and that was on a direct kick
