How to Color Pasta

Coloring pasta is super easy! All you have to do is add drops of food coloring into the water before adding the pasta. As the pasta cooks it will absorb the food coloring and the water and it will turn the color of the food coloring. You can add more food coloring depending on how bright of a color you want the pasta to be.

Tips for Making this Recipe

If you are making a full pound of pasta then you will want to use 20-24 drops of food coloring to get the rich color.

While I make this parmesan broccoli pasta for our St. Patrick’s Day fun, you can skip the food coloring if you are making it for a regular night’s dinner side dish.

When you are making pasta it is important to have the water be at a strong rolling boil before you add the pasta to the water.

Make sure you are using a big enough pot with enough water. Use at least 4 quarts of water for every pound ofnoodles. This will give the noodles enough room in the water and keep them from sticking to each other.

Hi there! How many servings does this make? I’m going to make enough for 41 people! Thanks!

This is meant to serve two people but if your guest is big eater than it will only sever one person. My husband can eat this recipe as is all by himself.

  2. PennsylvaniaNanny says

Does the food coloring stain the pots?

      No

  3. Summer says

This does not work. The green in the photo must be fake as we used even more coloring than the instructions. It’s barely tinted. Failed green pasta.

It’s not fake it’s completely real, did you make this in a large pot with a lot of water because they could have diluted the color?
