Happy New Year guys! I hope the first week of 2020 has been treating you well so far. So far ours has been B-U-S-Y which I suppose is the norm when you have an early January baby.

This past weekend we celebrated Lucas’ 4th birthday. It was certainly bittersweet since he’s the baby and I feel like 4 is the official end to toddler-hood. It seems like overnight he started being able to have full blown conversations! To celebrate my sweet and silly little man’s big day we hosted a construction theme party since he’s been interested in construction vehicles lately. It was a ton of fun to put together and I’m excited to share it with you guys today!

Let’s start with everyone’s favorite part of any party, the food! I created a “Build Your Own Taco” station since I thought it fit well with the construction theme. Besides, who doesn’t love tacos?!

I found this black chafing dish set at Party City to keep the meat warm and I was impressed with what a great job it did. The cans lasted for 2 hours and it kept everything warm the entire time.

We had both tortillas and shells to choose from.

And plenty of toppings! These shovel spoons that I found on Amazon were cute additions and turned out to be the perfect size to “shovel” all of the toppings on the tacos.

This road table runner was the perfect touch and after the party the boys actually decided to keep it in the playroom to drive their trucks on. It’s made out of a super durable plastic type of material so I feel like it will hold up for awhile.

Since Lucas doesn’t like tacos, I decided to set up some chips and queso too.

Luckily Lucas had asked Santa for construction vehicles so we were able to use them for decor. The dump truck worked wonderfully for the chips!

We had plenty of sweet treats to choose from.

The traffic light brownies proved to be much tougher to shape than I thought they would be, but luckily they were delicious so I don’t think anyone cared.

The dirt pile cups were made by simply mixing instant chocolate pudding, cool whip and crushed Oreos together, and we topped them with more crushed Oreos. Lucas really enjoyed helping me put in the shovel spoons and plastic dig picks.

To make these paint brushes I inserted jumbo craft sticks into Kellogg’s rice krispies treats. I considered making my own krispies, but after the brownie shaping fiasco I’m really glad that I decided to go the prepackaged route haha! Once the sticks were inserted I dipped them in orange candy melts.

Since all of these treats were messy, napkins were a must and the excavator served as the perfect napkin holder.

For the “fueling station” I filled up the mason jar drink dispenser with some orange punch.

Okay let’s chat about the decor. I found this adorable birthday banner on Amazon and decided to split it up. I hung the “Happy Birthday” portion in the kitchen above the food

and the trucks were in the front room as you walked in the door.

I also added in some birthday zone tape in various spots. My absolute favorite was the front door. The hubby said it made our house look like a crime scene, but the streamers hopefully made it look otherwise haha. So sad a I forgot to snap a picture of it!

I also added the tape to the fireplace along with traffic cones and a barrier that I threw together using foam board.

His wheel loader sat underneath the barrier on top of a fabric road.

The mantle is where the party favors sat. I put a few chocolate donuts and Reese’s Pieces inside clear gable boxes to resemble wheels on gravel.

I came up with the pun on the tag myself and since I’m not naturally witty I am hoping that the connection between the donuts and the “wheely” was somewhat understood 🙂

As you may have noticed, the mini caution tape had many uses. I originally purchased it for the favor boxes, but when I realized how much I had left over I decided to use them on other things like the crockpot and the sweets stands.

The fabric road that I had on the fireplace hearth was excess that I had cut off after using the rest for the dining room table.

I kept the table pretty simple with just a few of his trucks and some traffic cones.

And finally…the cake!

I had the bakery make a chocolate cake with a yellow border and grass. When we got it home we added the toy trucks and crushed Oreos.

I don’t think that it could have turned out any cuter!

I loved watching how special the birthday boy felt and we had a such a blast celebrating with him.
