TheseDulce de Leche Popcorn and Brazilian Chocolate Pizza Recipes are Brazilian Dessert Recipes you’ll want to make sure you file away!

If you read my blog, you know that one of my favorite times of the week is Friday night, which in our house is when we celebrate Movie Night. I love it for so many reasons, but mostly because my whole family cuddles on the couch together and we get to eat popcorn.

I also love it because we can do Family Movie Night without any fanfare or we can kick it up a notch for a fantastic evening the kids will be over the moon about. Which is what I did Friday night.

We all (yep, all five of us) came down with a cold this week, and were just starting to collectively feel better. A celebration was in order. So we celebrated Brazilian style.

The movie? Rio 2.

The treats? All things South American.

My first stop was to World Market, where I knew I could get some international goodies and entertaining essentials to inspire my spread. I’ve seen all of the rage about Brigadeiros on Pinterest, which inspired the whole Brazil-night concept, so I picked up a high-quality Dutch Process Cocoa Powder. I got some Dulce de Leche, not sure how I was going to use it, but knew it must be done. And, grabbed some super-interesting popular South American sodas and a few bottles of South American red winefor the grown-ups.

Here’s the Movie Night Menu I came up with:

Brazilian Chocolate Dessert Pizza

To me, the perfect family movie night starts with pizza. Move over pepperoni. It’s time for Brazilian Chocolate Dessert Pizza.

I baked my pizza crust, coveredit with chocolate from a traditional Brigadeiros recipe, then topped it off with sweetened coconut flakes, chopped nuts, and flaky sea salt. So. Good. So so good.

Brazilian Chocolate Dessert Pizza

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. pizza dough
  • 14 oz can of sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/4 cup of Dutch-process cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 1/2 cups of sweetened coconut flakes
  • 1/4 cup of chopped nuts
  • Flaky sea salt

Instructions

  1. Cook pizza dough according to package directions and remove from oven.
  2. Meanwhile, in a heavy-duty sauce pan, mix together the condensed milk, cocoa powder and butter. Stir constantly over medium heat for 8-10 minutes, until mixture thickens and you can see the bottom of the pan for a second when you stir with a wooden spoon.
  3. Remove from heat and allow to cool 5 minutes.
  4. Spread chocolate mixture over pizza crust. Top with coconut, nuts, and sea salt to taste.
  5. Put back in the oven at 375 degrees for 5-8 minutes, or until coconut is golden and nuts are toasted.
  6. Serve immediately.

It didn’t take me long what to do with the dulche de leche I scored at World Market. How ’bout a South American twist on caramel corn. Drum roll please…

Salted Dulce de Leche Popcorn

OMG. Y’all, this may be hands down the best thing to come out of my kitchen. Ever. And, I don’t say that lightly.

Sweet. Salty. Popcorn. The(new)trifecta of the Gods. We may never eat regular popcorn again. Plus, it’s so easy. Pop a plain batch of popcorn.

Mix in the pre-made dulce de leche, spread onto a cookie sheet and sprinkle with salt.

Bake until golden. The whole process is spoon licking good. In fact, so good that it may not make it from the baking sheet into a bowl.

Hi Katie, Friday Movie Night is such a fun idea! And you go all out! I’m Brazilian and we do loooooove some dessert pizza. This one looks delicious, I’m definitely gonna have to try making it. And what about the popcorn? Oh my! I have never had doce de leite and popcorn together! It sounds amazing … were the sodas good? I’ve never had the ones you picked … next time you should try drinking some Guaraná. It’s the best soda ever!

I tried to get it but they were out! I loved the Pineapple one. I’m using it soon for a new martini recipe that I’m pretty excited about! 🙂
