WEBB EDITH CASCIOTTI FLEMING BLACK MOUNTAIN Edith Casciotti Fleming, 91, died Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at Highland Farms Retirement Community, Black Mountain. She previously had resided in Florence, AL for 44 years before moving to North Carolina in 2005. She was bom in Norwich, PA, the daughter of the late Antenore and Elvira (DePetris) Casciotti. She married Herron Smith Heming of Grand Junction, TN on April 19, 1944, in Washington, D.C. He died January 2, 2011.

Surviving are a son, Edward Fleming of Asheville; a brother, Leonard Casciotti of Altoona, PA and a sister, Lenora Casciotti of Tyrone, PA. She was preceded in death by three siblings: Raymond Casciotti, FJio Casciotti Morphy, Carolyn McBee, 73 Robinson, Leona Summey, 86 Stakias, Martha, 85 daughter, Elizabeth Ivy Morphy and her fiance, Michael Street of Bakersville, NC, sisters, Virginia Cross and husband Gene of Marion, NC, Marie Geouge of Clover, SC, Helen Shimp, of Marion, NC, grandchildren, William McBee Morphy and Michael Alexander Street, of the home, four nephews, one niece, three great nephews, four great nieces, and special friend, Henry Skorga. Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 8, 2012 at in the Bakersville Baptist Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Billy Stewart and Chris Rathbone will be officiating the service.

Interment will follow in the Bakersville Memorial Cemetery. The brothers performed with Pat Woody as the Carolina Trio; later as a brothers duo at the Carolina Barn Dance in Spruce Pine. In 1949 Frank bought the first F-12 Gibson mandolin sold by Ralph Sullins and kept the instrument until the last year of his life. In 1953 the Buchanan Brothers gained local fame when they won the Arthur Smith talent show and went on to play on WBTV. After Ray died in a tragic hunting accident in 1954, Frank served in the US Army, worked in Marion and in Detroit, MI, finding groups to pick and sing with everywhere he went; and in between times coming back home and playing with local groups like the Wiseman Brothers. The late 1950's found him playing with the Cripple Creek Boys on radio station WRVA in Richmond, VA where he met Mr.

Bill Monroe, who soon asked Frank to join his band. Frank went to Nashville the first week of 1960, became Bluegrass Boy 37, and performed on the Grand Ole Opry stage less than 24 hours after arriving in the city. He recorded and toured with Bill Monroe and the Bluegrass Boys for several years, the highlight of his career, and always attended the band reunions in June of each year in Rosine, KY. In later years Frank lived in Marion and played with local groups; then in Mag- band Daniel, James Richard Spencer, Jr. and wife Sarah, and Jennifer Stakias; great-grandchildren: Hannah Kathryn Reel, Stephen Benjamin Reel, James David Reel, Peyton Meredith King, Bryce William King, and Savannah Grace Spencer; and sisters: Margaret Keyes and Rosemary Prigoff, both of Asheville and Sarah Helegsen of Florida.

Memorial services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Green Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from PM at the funeral home. He was born on March 25, 1934, the youngest of eight children in the family of the late Rommie Ray and Bessie Silvers Buchanan of the Estatoe community. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Junior Ray Buchanan and by his sisters and their husbands, Mae and Terrell Smith, Jane and Glen Robinson, Dorothy and Howard Smith, and Gladys and Earsel Smith, all of Marion, and Ruth and Isaac Ledford of Spruce Pine and Naomi and Paul Thomas of Apopka, Ha. He was also preceded in death by two nephews, Leonard Ledford and Richard Smith, and by two nieces, Shirley Smith and Betty Ledford Duncan. Mr.

Born in Canton, Martha lived most of her life in Buncombe County. She was a member of St Paul's United Methodist Church.

She was the daughter of the late Paul and Marjorie Duckett Pless, and was also preceded in death by her husband, James Donald Stakias; sister, Polly Bradley; and brother, Joe Pless. Surviving are her son, Dr. James A Stakias and wife Mary of Kingsport, TN; daughter, Sandy Spencer and husband Dr. James Spencer of Kanriapolis, NC; Gabri-ela Neri Avila of Puebla, Mexico, who was like a daughter to her; grandchildren: Elizabeth Sites and husband Brett, Meredith Reel and husband Steve, Sara King and hus MARY ELIZABETH SMITH DAVIS WAYNESVILLE Mary Elizabeth Davis died peacefully at the age of 94 at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center in Shelby after an extended period of de-dining health. Born on December 12, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Edwin E.

and Hattie Lee Smith and was also preceded in death by her husband, Glen Woodrow Davis, who died in 1982, and two brothers, Charles Edwin and William Jesse Smith. Elizabeth was born in Wake County but later moved to the Spring Creek Community of Madison County where she graduated from high school. In 1937, she was married and was blessed with the birth of two sons. Elizabeth worked as manager of the Spring Creek High School cafeteria for more than 20 years. She was also employed at Belk's Department Store for ten years and later retired from John Graham's Department Store in 2004.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Waynesville and a former member ANNBE BANKS CANDLER Annie Elizabeth Banks, 79, died on Wednesday, July 4, 2012. A native of Buncombe County, Mrs. Banks was the daughter of the late Welzy and Beulah Mae Thompson Banks. Mrs. Banks is survived by her husband, Lester Banks, daughters, Doris Ann Walker (Joe) and Karan Kay Hall (Scott), sisters, Joyce Smith, Leona Pace, Faye Fender and Ruby Johnson, granddaughters, Beth Banks and Kaylyn Chandler (Adam), great grandson, Hayden Scott Banks and several nieces and nephews.

Gene Jimmy Bivins Glen, secretary of the Ohio State Former Boxers Associates said Bivins was an outstanding fighter who made "outstanding contributions, not only as a boxer but also as a human being." Bivins taught kids about boxing in his later years, said Jerry Nelson, who is married to Bivins' nephew. The year before Bivins was inducted into the Hall of Fame, police found him in the attic of his daughter's house, covered with bedsores and weighing only 110 pounds 70 pounds below his fighting weight.

Bivins' son-in-law later pleaded guilty to criminal neglect. Bivins recovered and lived with a sister for years before moving to the nursing home in 2009, Nelson said. CAROLYN MCBEE MORPHY BAKERSVTLLE, NC Carolyn McBee Morphy died July 4, 2012 after a period of declining health. Carolyn was born April 2, 1939 in Bakersville. She was a graduate of Marion High School.

She received a BS from Wake Forest University and a MS from UCLA. She taught High School in California several years before returning to North Carolina. After returning to North Carolina she taught at Mars Hill College. She also taught Physical Education and Reading at Nebo, NC and North Cove, NC. Carolyn developed an Elementary Physical Education program which was adopted by schools in various parts of the United States.

She was a Member of Bakersville Baptist Church where she served as the organist when needed. She was a Member of the Mitchell County Historical Society. She served on boards of the Mitchell County Library Board and the Bakersville Medical Clinic. Carolyn enjoyed her grandson's as they played sports and activities. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Ivy McBee.

She is survived by: her LEONA SUMMEY ROBINSON ASHEVILLE Leona Summey Robinson, 86, of 23 Edwin Place, died Friday, June 29, 2012, at the John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center. A lifelong resident of Buncombe she was a daughter of the late Dillon Franklin and Beedie Ann Smith Summey. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Fred Robinson; sister Earlean Robinson; brother J.D. Summey, and granddaughter, Son-ja Raynette Whitt Mrs.

Robinson worked as a bookkeeper in the various businesses she and her husband operated in Asheville. Together they were known for their community involvement to benefit residents of Asheville's East End. She was also known for her work and contributions to assist develop-mentally disabled children. She worked with the Children's Welfare League and was a former Girl Scout Leader. In sum, she made a difference in the lives of many area citizens.

Mrs. Robinson is survived by a daughter, Annette Hatley Roof and her husband, Larry; a son, Larry Robinson and his wife, Linda; six grandchildren, Lisa Quintero, Sean Hall of Fame boxer Jimmy Bivins, 92, dies Associated Press CLEVELAND Jimmy Bivins, a boxing great of the 1940s and 1950s who defeated some of the greatest fighters of his time, has died at 92. Bivins died of complications from pneumonia early Wednesday at an East Cleveland nursing home, according to his family. Bivins retired from boxing in 1955 after more than 100 professional fights and was inducted in the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1999. He never fought for a world title, but in 1942 he was given the unprecedented ranking of No.
